On December 23, 2024, SMG Dry Port proudly welcomed His Excellency Muhammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of The Gambia, and His Excellency Ousmane Sonko, Prime Minister of Senegal, along with their distinguished delegations, for an official visit to our facility. This significant event highlighted the vital role SMG Dry Port plays in fostering regional trade, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

The visit showcased SMG Dry Port’s logistics and operational infrastructure, which has been pivotal in transforming The Gambia into a hub for efficient container handling and storage. Built on 60,000 square meters, the facility can accommodate up to 3,000 containers, ensuring seamless service delivery for businesses in the region.

During the tour, the Vice Presidents engaged with the SMG team and explored various aspects of the port’s operations, including its stringent measures to combat illicit trade. The facility’s robust systems, designed to prevent the illegal export of timber and other contraband, were particularly commended for their contribution to environmental conservation and compliance with national regulations.

The high-level visit reaffirms the commitment of The Gambia and Senegal to strengthening bilateral ties and leveraging infrastructure projects like SMG Dry Port to drive regional progress. It also highlighted the facility’s role as a model of excellence in logistics and environmental stewardship.

SMG Dry Port Participates in the 32nd Edition of Intermodal Africa 2024

SMG Dry Port Co. Ltd. played a prominent role at the 32nd edition of Intermodal Africa, Africa’s largest Ports and Logistics Exhibition and Conference, held from Tuesday, 26 November to Thursday, 28 November 2024, at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in The Gambia. Hosted by the Gambia Ports Authority and endorsed by the Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa (PMAESA), the event brought together over 350 industry leaders, government officials, and maritime professionals.

On Tuesday, 26 November, delegates were given a tour of SMG Dry Port, where they experienced firsthand our state-of-the-art facilities and innovative container handling and logistics solutions. The visit highlighted SMG’s critical role in streamlining logistics and enhancing trade efficiency in the region.

During the main conference days, Wednesday, 27 November, and Thursday, 28 November, SMG hosted an exhibition tent, showcasing our extensive service offerings, including empty container pooling and FCL export capabilities. The event provided an excellent platform to connect with key stakeholders, foster new partnerships, and discuss growth opportunities in Africa’s logistics sector.

A key highlight was the compelling presentation delivered by our Managing Director on “The Art of Winning Intermodal Supply Chain and Logistics from Port to Hinterland – Using the Western Africa Geography to the Best.” In his speech, the MD emphasized West Africa’s unique geographical advantage in connecting global trade routes with inland markets. He discussed practical strategies for leveraging intermodal logistics solutions to optimize supply chain efficiency and drive economic growth. The presentation underscored SMG’s pivotal role in enhancing connectivity and logistics excellence in the region.
